the edge

Welcome to the edge.

The view into the void. The unknown.

Behind us, all the noise. The clatter of patterns, predictions and prognostication. There’s beauty and beast, poetry and jargon, bright lights, blaring sounds, masterpieces and daily sludge. There’s a trend or two, a heap of hype, and brief moments in the eye of the storm when we can stop staring into doom loops and take a deep breath…

Until it all comes roaring back with artificial intelligence hot on its tail.

Like “The Nothing” from the Neverending Story, AI consumes every bit and pixel of human record as it gains power and draws closer. Our creativity, like Artax the horse, is sinking in the swamp of slop as we desperately hold onto the reins.

Or maybe it’s more like “The Everything” - empowering us to breathe life into our hopes and dreams. Auto-crafting endless content so we can filter the good from the ugly. We’ve been handed the infinity gauntlet, complete with all the stones, as long as we can afford the tokens.

Thinking about these two ends of the spectrum, I want to lean towards the optimistic side, even as this fundamental change lays waste to the workforce while lining the pockets of the already disgustingly rich.

But that’s all behind us.

We’ve come to the edge because we need to pull from the unknown. The ever growing devourer of pattern is going to get stronger, but it can only feed on the known. Let’s harness the dragon while carefully curating its next course.

We need to look into those spaces where we don’t have answers, but curiosity. Philosophy. Art. Humanities. The kind of spaces they used to tell us were not lucrative careers. Only human touch can truly pull from those sources because it comes from an unknown place, within.

Welcome to the edge.

Stay tuned for more transmissions from the unknown…
